Condo fees still tricky

Some condo-owning landlords are taking in rent but aren't paying their association fees, but legal reform will soon target these deadbeat investors. A Miami-Dade County judge recently ruled that owners of multiple units can be pursued with bulk receivership orders to cover unpaid fees. It would allow condo associations to siphon off rental payments to cover their own fees. Javier "Jay" Lopez, property manager of the Oaks at Miami Gardens, which was at the center of the case, said it was the best last-ditch option for financially strapped associations. The Real Deal looked at condo association receiverships earlier this month. [Sun-Sentinel]
